Yesterday I caught up with a friend at the Swift Hibernian Lounge on the Bowery where we first hatched our plans for world-domination through “kind acts” and killer branding on a cold winter’s day. So it made sense to have a follow-up and check-in on a hot summer’s eve. Swift is everything you need, wood, brass, impeccable pub food and a beer selection that puts many a gastropub to shame. I had to try the Sculpin IPA from San Diego-based brewery Ballast Point given my new fly fishing obsession. It was a beautiful ale, sparkling sweet but dry and crisp and a bit hoppy like an IPA should be (but not cloying).
“The Sculpin is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. It showcases bright flavors and aromas of apricot, peach, mango & lemon. The lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops.”
I love the fact that Ballast Point has a fishing team and I really have NO IDEA how I left them off my list of breweries with fish themes, but consider this a correction. They have a “Wheat Beer Wahoo”, “Porter Black Marlin,” “Amber Ale Calico (bass),” and a “IPA Big Eye (tuna).”
